New Directions has been active in providing Social Care in West Lothian for twenty years. Initially we provided advice and support for people with epilepsy but since 2015 we have broadened our remit and support people who have a learning disability, autism, mental health, physical disability, addictions and life-limiting conditions. We support people to look after their homes, shop for and cook healthier meals, manage their money, look after their health and take part in education, voluntary and paid work and sport and leisure activities. We can also help with personal care and assist people who face communication differences.
Since 2006 we have grown by 89% percent and deliver 41,000 hours of support per year. Our main contract is with West Lothian Council but we also deliver support on behalf of Falkirk Council and City of Edinburgh. We support seventy-five people and assist people to take part in education, training, paid and voluntary work, look after their homes, their health and their money. We have close links with colleagues in health and social work.
At New Directions we want everyone to be included and everyone to be heard. Earlier this year, we had some fantastic training from the Equalities Network to raise our awareness of LGBT+ equalities rights and good practice.
We have now signed up to the Scottish LGBT+ Charter Mark which means that we are committed to the principles;
Creating a welcoming and and inclusive place for our LGBT+ customers and users and maintaining best practice.
We want our LGBT+ staff to be able to be themselves at work, to feel valued and protected.
We will be visible in our support , and use respectful and inclusive language, helping everyone to feel comfortable
We have zero tolerance for discriminatory language and behaviour.
We are committed to understanding the needs of LGBT+ people.
